15th January 2015 - First Post

Week 1 and 2 - Start of the challenge - 1st January 2015

On the 1st January 2015, I set myself a task of running every day for the full year of 2015. The aim is to run at least 1 mile each day, to help raise money for The Christie charity in Manchester. I’m a little late starting the blog, but hoping I can spread the word and get as many donations for this great cause. After 15 days, I have currently covered 60 miles and I hope to reach at least 1000 miles before the end of the year.

I plan to complete a series of 5k's, 10k's, half marathons and a full marathon some during the year which will take me towards my target of 1000 miles. With running a minimum of one mile a day, I am guaranteed the 365 mile marker, but I want to exceed this by a good distance.

I currently run every Saturday morning at Cuerden Valley Park which is located in Bamber Bridge, Preston. It's a free 5k race where every standard of runner is welcome. The organisers, volunteers and runners themselves all contributed towards me taking this challenge on. Pita Oates is the chief organiser, who does such a brilliant job and puts in so much hard work to keep it running every weekend. I have attached the details below... If you are in the area of Preston I recommend trying it out, whether it's to get fit, socialise, or even just to get out of the house. I have attached the details below.

I will continue to update you with my progress through the year, with pictures, videos, stories of the past/present and how my legs are feeling.... 15 days in I still feel fresh, well maybe a little tired but more motivated than ever. I have been out in strong winds, hail, rain, all the elements, nothing will put me off.

Sponsor Information:

The Christie Charity, Manchester.

Being diagnosed with Hodgkin Lympoma in 2006, I was treated at The Christie for a total of 7 months; 6 months of intensive chemotherapy followed by a month of radiotherapy. I went through all the common side effects, losing all my hair...every last bit, except for a few eyelashes and eye brows. I remember having a full body shave in the bath before my hair started to fall out...  Smooth isn't the word.. Putting on weight with taking steroids, first month I was eating 5-6 meals a day, including 3 pies for dinner sometimes, loved a good pie... Anyhow, without the help of all the staff and workers at The Christie, I may not be here today and have the opportunity to take part in this challenge.

Anything you donate, whether it be £1 or £10, will make a massive difference - It will all go towards a great cause and help save and treat many lives of people of all ages. The stats say 1 in 3 of us will get cancer, but we need to fight to improve these figures.
